AWS

Introduction to Robotics on AWS

The robotics industry is growing at a rapid rate, creating a need for people with the varied skills required for robotics (mechanics, electrical, software, and more). In this course, you will learn how to use the cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to help accelerate your robotics development. You will also learn about industry trends in robotics, the evolution to next-generation robotics in the cloud, and how AWS can solve common challenges for robotics companies. Finally, you will learn common patterns and best practices for robotics workloads on AWS.

  • Explaining industry trends in robotics and the benefits of cloud adoption for next-generation autonomous systems (e.g., edge-to-cloud connectivity, over-the-air updates, fleet monitoring).
  • Identifying common robotics challenges (e.g., high-fidelity simulation, data management, ML inference at the edge) and corresponding AWS solutions/patterns.
  • Describing key AWS robotics patterns, such as using cloud for Gazebo-based simulations, ROS integration, data lakes for telemetry, and services for secure deployment/management.
  • Articulating best practices for robotics workloads on AWS, including security, cost optimization, scalability, and hybrid (edge + cloud) architectures.
  • Recognize how AWS enables faster iteration, cost-effective simulation (e.g., reducing physical hardware needs), and scalable robotics solutions compared to on-premises approaches.
  • Gain awareness of AWS services tailored to robotics (e.g., AWS RoboMaker for simulation and deployment, integration with ROS/ROS2, cloud storage/analytics for sensor data) and their role in overcoming development hurdles.
  • Feel prepared to evaluate AWS for robotics projects, discuss adoption with teams, or progress to more advanced robotics courses/labs on Skill Builder.
  • 30-minute digital course content with three modules, knowledge checks, visuals, and high-level explanations (100% on-demand, no hands-on labs in this intro; conceptual focus).
  • Foundational-level training in the Robotics domain, recommended for robotics engineers, developers, or professionals with basic understanding of sensors/actuators/microcontrollers (no deep AWS prerequisites).
  • Overview of AWS services for robotics (e.g., AWS RoboMaker, Amazon S3, AWS IoT, SageMaker for ML components) aligned with real-world patterns from robotics companies.
  • Certificate of completion issued.
